Doctor with patient

Atlantic Hyperbaric Associates is an extension of your doctor's practice

Successful wound care requires a team approach. We recognize the referring physician's role and responsibility for the management of your medical treatment and wound care. We will work closely with you and accommodate you and your doctor's needs.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is an important adjunct in the treatment of non-healing wounds. An established technology, HBOT has proven helpful in the treatment of:

Diabetic wounds

Radiation tissue injury including:

Radiation cystitis

Radiation proctitis

Radiation wounds

Nervous system related injury

Head & neck cancer patients
   needing oral surgery/teeth pulled

Chronic Osteomyelitis

Threatened skin grafts and flaps

Problem wounds

Crush injuries

Necrotizing infections

Intracranial abscess

Air embolism

Carbon monoxide poisoning

The therapy involves the systematic delivery of oxygen to patients placed in a pressurized chamber while breathing 100 percent oxygen for periods of 2 hours.

The beneficial effects of the increased oxygen include:

Hyperoxygenation

Vasoconstriction

Angiogenesis (neovascularization)

Antibacterial effects

HBOT is an important adjunct to other wound healing treatments

When used in conjunction with other conventional wound care treatments, Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has a synergistic and beneficial effect in the treatment of many kinds of ischemic or hypoxic wounds.

Successful wound care requires a team management approach. We recognize the primary physician's role and responsibility for the management of each patient's medical treatment and work closely with referring physicians to design the most effective treatment modality.

Treatment protocols

The patient's clinical response and other factors will dictate the number of treatments required, and non-healing wounds often require as many as 20 to 40 sessions, administered once or twice daily. A typical session lasts 2 hours.

Oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure is carefully administered to avoid side effects. Our team, staffed with physicians board certified in Hyperbaric medicine, has been thoroughly trained and tested.

HBOT is performed on an out-patient or in-patient basis.
